Trees:

Mountain Mahogany

The Indians cut back the mountain-mahogany branches in the fall so that new long straight branches will go forth the following spring. Because the wood was so hard, the mature branches made excellent arrows. These strong branches were also good tools to dig up bulbs and roots.

The inner bark was also used to make a deep purple die for decorating baskets.
