Students do a jigsaw reading/presentation for the section. Students read different sections of the survival guide. Groups then get together and create a presentation for their particular section, and then share it with the rest of the class

  Kids' stories and pictures of living through a disaster

  1. Students read from the first person accounts from kids. Students then summarize the article they read. 
  2. Students read a story from another kid. Then students write a letter to that child. Empathy could be discussed.

  1. Have students read about the animals, plants, or minerals of the Sonora Desert. Students then prepare a presentation to teach the rest of the class the information they have learned.
