These websites are basically  timelines of the events of the Civil War. The writing may be a little difficult for students. Good for group research.

  Primary Source narrative of a slave sold to the South

1. The teacher reads the excerpt and students draw a picture to illustrate the idea(s) expressed. The drawings can be used to see how much the students understand about the advanced concepts involved in slavery.
2. Have students retell the events of the story from the first person point of view.

The site contains narratives. Students should concentrate on the information not in quotes as the dialect can be very difficult to decode.
