This
lesson has several steps to it. It is meant to be completed over an
extended period of time. At the beginning of the assignment, teachers
should present a checklist for
each step of the assignment and a rubric for the final presentation.
- Students
look through clip art and gather 3-5 pictures. With Windows, move the
mouse over the picture, right click, select, "save picture
as", and then tell the computer where to save the file. With
Apple, move the mouse over the image, click and hold. Then select,
"download the picture to a disk". Tell the computer where to
save the picture.
- Students
research the themes of their clip art using a variety of media
(books, web pages, encyclopedia).
- Teachers
then conference with each student to make sure they have
enough/accurate info.
- Students
then make a storyboard/drawing of their page layout. Teachers must
show students how to design each one of their slides (powerpoint), cards
(hyperstudio), html pages (website), or documents from a word
processor. Students draw, with paper and pencil, a picture of how they
want each page to look on the computer, including the location of and
the content of their text.
- Students
then review each other's storyboards and make suggestions.
- Teacher
conference to make sure layout and information is ready to publish.
- Student
can begin using the computer to create his/her project.
- Students
then present their reports to the class. During the reports, students
judge each other based on the rubric.
